I'm Emma, a photographer born and raised in LA. I grew up by the beach which I feel is what drives a lot of my inspiration and creativity.
I’ve always had an eye for what I find to be aesthetically pleasing. As a kid, it would be represented in simple things like how I would arrange my stuffed animals or decorate my room. I had no idea that this simple trait would be the foundation that id build a career around.
I'm mostly self-taught, I never went to college. I actually flunked out of high school photo class. I didn’t like the assignments, so I would ditch class every day. I almost went to culinary school when I was 18 and my life would have looked a hell of a lot different, but I decided to pursue a photo internship instead. The best decision I’ve ever made!
I shoot both digital and film, and I love both mediums for different reasons! You can do so much with digital files these days, the world really is your oyster in that sense. On the other hand, film is more forgiving and just looks so much better. Probably not what you would expect, but digital cameras these days are so high quality, they capture every flaw. I don’t like to edit the subject in my photos too much, I like people to look like real people. Shooting film makes that more possible.
I’m the type of person that needs a lot of different creative outlets. I tend to pick up random hobbies to keep my mind busy if I’m not able to shoot all the time. My husband and I (and our two fur babes) just got a cute house in Echo Park, so I’ve been spending a lot of my time on house projects. If I don’t stay busy and stay creative, I tend to lose my mind!
